Salento is known as the cradle municipality of the Wax Palm, Colombia’s national tree, and it is full of touristic highlights, all related to observing nature. This is a region with beautiful countryside which is accesible via its network of hiking trails. Our traditional “Willys” will drive you to the imposing Valle de Cocora National Park, where you can admire one of the most spectacular landscapes in Colombia, take part in ecological walks, horse-riding or mountain-bike excursions.
Salento is also the gateaway to Los Nevados National Park and its moor ecosystems. 335 birds species and more than 350 butterfly species have been detected. Trekkings are organized to one of the highest peaks of the country: Nevado de Tolima (5220 m), an active volcano located in the central mountain range of the Colombian Andes. The hiking excursions to the mountains start directly from the Cocora Valley and last for three or four days.
We recommend a visit to a Colombian Coffee Farm, where you can join a Coffee Tour and observe the coffee production from its harvesting to its degustation.
Time seems to have stood still in the small village of Salento, and it’s not uncommon to see people still riding horses to come into town. The stunning landscapes surrounding Salento make it a fantastic place for horse riding. From coffee plantations, to waterfalls, to valleys, there is a huge number of things to see and trails to explore.
This wonderful excursion to the wax palms forests of La Carbonera is known as the Carbonera sanctuary, where you will find 600 times more
Wax palms than in Cocora Valley.
